17° International Prize for Wine®

Excitement, success, great satisfaction and wonderful set designs have been at the center of this year’s ‘Oscar of Wine', the most elegant event in the world of wine, which took place in Rome on Saturday June 6.

A party defined by fine taste and glamour, which since the first edition has made this a truly unique event – yet also a party dedicated to emotion and design, as well as the important people and new discussions for the promotion of high quality wine, grappa, and extra virgin olive oil.

In the theatre of the prestigious “Salone dei Cavalieri”, a stage with lights, flowers and colors was the setting for the "Night of the stars", where the best of Made in Italy was offered to an audience of politicians, diplomats, and many famous Italian artists like Al Bano, Renato Zero, Maria Scicluna and Mara Venier. With a completely renovated format, not only thanks to lights and cameras of RAI-2 [One of Italy’s major TV channels], but also thanks to what happened on stage, together with the beauty and charm of TV personality Andrea Delogu, who led the evening, along with the chef Cesare Marretti and Faith and Tinto, radio hosts Decanter, in a semi-serious jury that jived with the candidates, opening the envelopes and announcing the winners of the Oscars to the audience, in addition to cheering the audience with jokes, aphorisms and hilarious gags.  Franco Maria Ricci, creator of the Oscar del Vino [The Wine Oscars], was obviously up there on stage – the man who has organized the event for the past seventeen years. The evocative story of the fairy tale of wine, written by Elisabetta Salvatori, was a truly thrilling close.

After the Oscars were awarded, as always based on the votes from Bibenda readers of “The Guide to Wines, Grappa Italian Restaurants”, as well as Bibenda7 and the website www.bibenda.it, an incredible tasting began of all the wines nominated in several categories, along with grappa and extra virgin olive oil. All this was touched off with a fine selection of many Italian and international culinary excellences, true delicacies such as Culatello di Parma, Prosciutto Iberico Julián Martín and Saint Marcel herb prosciutto, smoked Prague Ham, Canestrato from Pienza, Roman Ricotta, jams from Fruttanuda, homemade ice cream and the coffee from Hausbrandt.

The Oscar of Wint 2015 will be televised on Rai 2 next July 1st.
